Ruth Jean Fetters
(February 24, 1936 - October 25, 2017)

Ruth graduated from Abraham Lincoln HS in 1954. On June 12th, 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, Darrell "Red" Fetters at Old Avon Community Church. Together they raised 6 daughters. Her biggest passions were her family, her faith, gardening, and helping others.
She was a lifetime active member of Avon Community Church. Ruth spent many years decorating cakes and truck gardening. Ruth was instrumental in starting the Carlisle girls softball league and was a girl scout leader for many years. She worked 20 plus years as an Operations Supervisor at the Maurices Distribution Center in Johnston. After her retirement, Ruth and her husband travelled in their RV for several years. She started the Carlisle Garden Club and along with her husband, Darrell, created many of the North Park gardens and structures.
Ruth is survived by her 6 daughters, Susan (David) Mengwasser of Pleasant Hill, Jeanne Fetters Stump of Carlisle (Kirk Stump of Des Moines), Joni Fetters of Indianola, Sherry LaValley of Carlisle, Donna (Bruce) McLaren of Indianola and Lisa Fetters Ball of Carlisle; sister, Bea Powell of Des Moines; sister in law, Barbara Burress of Pleasantville. She was "Grandma Honey" to grandchildren; Marcy, (Bill), Jediah (Stacey), Jacob, Kelsey, Gabriel, Richard (Amanda), Robert (Brittney), Danielle (Matt), Joseph, Adam(Kasey), Wesley (Shelby), Riley, Matthew (Bridget), Mikala, Mackenzee (Ian) and great grandchildren; Zach, Nate, Jada,
Austin, Trenton, Samantha, Baby Ball, Courtney, Paige, Averi, Julian, Carter, Rylan, Luke, Patrick, Kalob, Isabella, Sophia, Allyson and Jasmine. th was preceded in death by her parents, Woody and Alice; husband, Darrell “Red” Fetters; siblings, Jim Burress, Bill Burress, Alice Lou Belt; son in law, Ricky LaValley; granddaughter, Alexandria Fetters McLaren and great grandson, Creighton Howard Fetters.
Visitation for Ruth will be from 4-6:00 PM, Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle and services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, October 30, 2017 at Glory Baptist Church at Avon (Old Avon Church) followed by burial in Elm Grove Cemetery in Des Moines and luncheon at the Bloomfield Methodist Church in Des Moines.
