Michael Eugene Rodman
(October 8, 1946 - October 5, 2017)

Surrounded by his family, Mike passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Methodist Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, October 10th at Community United Presbyterian Church in Hartford, IA. with graveside service to follow. A visitation and luncheon will begin at 11am prior to the service. Mike was born on October 8th, 1946 to Darwyn and Harlene (Pine) Rodman of Wall Lake, IA. Mike graduated from Wall Lake Community High School in 1964. After dating on and off for two years he married Kathy (Blessington) Rodman on August 29, 1965. He worked for O’Tool’s of Carnarvon, IA and Griffin Construction of Lake View, IA.
After completing his airline education, Mike and Kathy settled in Hartford, IA. For thirty five years Mike worked for the airline industry, Ozark Airlines, TWA and American. After three weeks of retirement, he began employment with the The Village in Indianola, IA in charge of gardening and later activities. Thirteen years later he retired for the second and last time.
Between working and spending time with his family, Kathy and the three boys, Jeff, Tony, and Sean, Mike was active as a volunteer fireman, elder of the church, city council member, chairman of the “Hartford Days”, youth group leader, member of the Betterment Committee and briefly the mayor of Hartford. Mike coached and officiated youth athletics in Carlisle for several years. Also, was the president of the Carlisle Athletic Booster Club.
Mike had many hobbies, playing tennis,(back in the day), cribbage, fishing, gardening, cooking and helping family and friends. Together, he and Kathy enjoyed taking day trips, antiques and the BEST of all the grandchildren and their activities.
After living in the community of Hartford for almost 50 years Mike and Kathy bought a townhome and moved to the Southside of Des Moines, IA. Yes, they became Southsiders!
Mike is survived by his wife Kathy of 52 years; son, Jeff (Debi) and their children Cooper and Rieley, and son, Sean (Amanda) and children Brooklyn, Truman, and bonus children Kaleb and Keagan. His brother Dan of Wall lake, IA and his three children, Jody, Chris and Kevin and their familiesp; in laws, Cheryl (Dennis) Dunkin of Grundy Center, IA, Bob Blessington of Lake View ,IA, Wanda (John)Gibson of Waukee, IA, Dennis (Lori) Blessington of Lake View, IA, Marsha Blessington of Vinton, IA, Gerry (Kay)Blessington of Auburn, IA Kent (Eileen) Blessington of Auburn IA, Sandy (Ted) Marzorati, of Columbus, NE. and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by their son Tony, parents Darwyn and Harlene and his father and mother in law Lloyd and Blenna Blessington. A special thank you to the emergency staff at Lutheran Hospital, and the staff at Methodist Medical Center.
