James Richard Wilson
(1943 - August 12, 2018)

James Richard Wilson, 75, of Norwalk passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at The Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines, IA. Burial of cremains will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
Jim was inducted into the United States Army on May 20, 1964 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on May 13, 1966. He was a jack-of-all-trades and even built his own home in Pleasantville, IA. He had a passion for horses all his life and always enjoyed the company of dogs.
He worked as a Civil Servant at the Knoxville, IA Veteran’s Administration for many years. He then went on to work at Pella Doors in Pella, IA for a number of years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed nature and his flower gardens — he knew the names of every flower, tree, and bird in Central Iowa. He was in the process of teaching himself to play the piano and was quite proud of his progress. He was well-loved for his kind-heartedness, compassion, and desire to help others — not only for family and friends, but neighbors.
He is survived by his sister, Joanne Rude of Johnston, IA; his brother, John Wilson (Pam) of Corvallis, OR; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Dorothy Wilson of Des Moines; siblings, Jean Woolman of Des Moines and Jackie Hartman of Branson, MO. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
