Alice May Gittins
(August 24, 1942 - August 13, 2018)

On Monday, August 13, 2018 Alice Gittins, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at age 75. Alice was born on August 24 in Chariton, Iowa to Howard and Mary Snuggs (Richardson). She graduated from SE Warren High School in Liberty Center, Iowa. On June 2, 1962 she married Stephen Sexton. Together they raised four children – Kathy (Sexton) Good, Steve Sexton, Patricia (Sexton) Bird and Sam Sexton. On June 17, 1995 she married Larry Gittins and became stepmother to Laura Gittins, James Gittins and Jennifer Adams.
Alice had a passion for reading. She always had a book nearby. When not reading she enjoyed her family and friends. She was ever ready for a cup of coffee and good conversation. Alice was a supporter of and participant in the Warren County Democratic Party steak fry and was proud of the moment when she shook Hillary Clinton’s hand at the event in 2007.
She was employed for many years at Bankers Trust, Employers Mutual Casualty Company (EMC), and for the State of Iowa.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Mary, her sister Arlene Wetmore and her brother John Snuggs. She is survived by her husband, Larry; children, Kathy (Craig) Good, Steve (Renee) Sexton, Patricia (Joe) Bird, Sam Sexton, Laura Gittins, James (Barbara) Gittins, Jennifer (Bob) Adams; 15 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her sister Virginia (John) Crumpacker.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 16 at Overton Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
