(September 30, 1926 - June 7, 2018)

Memorial services for Marjorie Alice Laird, 91, who passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Westview Care Center in Indianola, will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 12 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with visitation held one hour prior to services. Burial of cremains will follow in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Marjorie Alice was born September 30, 1926, to Charles and Mabel Ensley in Chariton, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Chariton High School. From 1943 through 1945 she attended Simpson College and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Following that she attended The University of Iowa in Iowa City, and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Music degree. She began her teaching career in 1947 as a music teacher in Coggon, Iowa. Then in 1948 and 1949 she taught in Mechanicsville, Iowa. In 1946 Marjorie was united in marriage with Philip B. West. The Wests moved to Indianola in 1951 where Dr. West opened his dental office. They were blessed with three sons, Steven, Philip, and Roger, who were raised in Indianola.
Marjorie earned an MS degree in education from Drake in 1968. She taught in the Indianola Community Schools for 25 years at the elementary level and in the middle school. In 1966 she and William Laird were married. After retirement she and William spent many years wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Marjorie was a member of PEO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, husband, and granddaughter. She is survived by her 3 sons Dr. Steven West (Martha), Dr. Philip West, and Dr. Roger West (Libby), 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the Indianola Hope Foundation, an organization that provides assistance to students and families in the Indianola Community Schools who need immediate temporary financial assistance.
