A Celebration of Life service for Donald E. Everhart, 78, who left us peacefully on January 7, 2018, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 11 at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to services.
Don was born July 25, 1939 to Arlene Hair and Hubert Everhart. As a young boy, he lived for two years on the farm with his grandparents where he loved the farm life. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1958, where he wrestled in the 120 pound weight class. He married Carol Clark in Atlantic in 1959. They made their home in Atlantic where they had their first son, Michael. They moved to Buffalo, Wyoming where their second son, Randall, was born. They moved back to Iowa and settled in Indianola in 1965.
Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball (St. Louis Cardinals), traveling, old cars, guns, and coaching little league baseball. He coached several Indianola boys through the years. Don loved dogs. Among his family pets were two toy fox terriers, Keebie and Pipsie. He could be seen around town with a dog hiding in his jacket. Don could also be seen volunteering at Chapel of Faith with Pastor John Long.
While in high school, Don worked for Wonder Bread and for the Rock Island Railroad. He later went on to be employed with Massey Ferguson. He later was a roofing contractor and a part time courier with Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He retired in 2012.
Don was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2014. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol; children, Michael (Pamela Zarifis) and Randall; four grandchildren, Chelsea, Zachary, Alexander and Nathaniel; great- grandchild, Taylen; and sisters, Ardith, Audrey and Amy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlene and Hubert; brothers, Jerry, Jim, John and Joe; and brother in law, Dwaine Clark. He will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him. “We will see you later sunshine!”
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Good Samaritan Activity Department or Kiya Koda Humane Society. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
