Lyle R. Ruble
(February 7, 1943 - October 28, 2017)

Services for Lyle R. Ruble, 74, of Indianola, who passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017, will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 2, at Overton Funeral Home, with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Lyle was born and raised in rural Indianola, he arrived on February 7, 1943 at a modest 12 lbs, and he passed away at home on October 28, 2017 doing what he loved, working outdoors.
Lyle was born to Roy William Ruble and Gladys May (Niles) Ruble. Lyle was the youngest of three with an older brother Don (Dorothy) of Shrewsberry, MA and Norma (Chester) Sutherland of Indianola. He was raised on a farm outside of Indianola and farmed through his childhood. Lyle attended elementary school in a one room schoolhouse graduating from Indianola High School in May 1961. He enlisted in the Army and left immediately following graduation to serve our country until being honorably discharged in October 1968.
In May 1966 he married Barbara Jean VanPelt; they made their home in Indianola eventually realizing his dream of having a farm of their own. To this union were born three children: Lori Ann, Richard LaFord (Debbie) and Lisa Rene (JJ) Beener. The kids were raised on the farm and learned that hard work and your word were what will set you apart in this life. They were married for just short of 52 years.

Lyle worked off the farm for Ruble Motors in Indianola moving to Ramsey Pontiac and Firestone always as a mechanic. Everyone who knew Lyle understood he had at least one tool to meet everyone’s needs and he would happily help you if you brought it over for him to look at and usually fix. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do, cars, tractors, mowers, construction, and lots of ‘honey do’ items. If you needed him to travel to help you can guarantee his faithful sidekick, Dozer (his 120 lb lapdog) was with him. You got two for one with the traveling fix-it duo.
Lyle eventually became a grandpa which completed his family. A total of eight grandchildren arrived: Joshua Philip Beener, Averey Marie Ruble, Jakob Laford Beener, Aiden Richard Ruble, Adrianna Best Ruble, Norah Jean Hasenwinkel, Meghan Louise Beener and Kaine Matthew Hasenwinkel. From this point on he could be found with the grandkids playing indoors, outdoors, watching baseball, soccer, football, softball, band, symphony, chorus, cheerleading and dance. He may not have enjoyed all the activities but he was there any way!
He will be very much missed by his wife, three children and spouses, eight grandchildren, many neighbors and friends.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 1 at Overton Funeral home with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Indianola Community Youth Foundation (ICYF) or Carlisle Athletic Booster Club. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
