Lewis Todhunter
(April 6, 1817 - January 29, 1902)

Born in Fayette County, Ohio, April 6, 1817, he was admitted to the bar in Highland County, Ohio, in 1848. Mr. Todhunter came to Iowa in 1850 and settled on Des Moines River in Polk County, where he was engaged in farming and selling goods. In 1854, he came to Indianola and began the practice of law, continuing in that profession for more than a quarter of a century and was very successful. His first wife was Elizabeth Hull, who died several years ago. He was married again in 1887 to Mrs. Louisa Smith, who died in 1899, leaving him at an advanced age alone but surrounded with every comfort. He served as prosecuting attorney, county auditor, treasurer and mayor of the city. Mr. Todhunter was a member of the constitutional convention which met at Iowa City in 1857, representing Warren, Madison, Adair and Cass counties in that body and had the honor of assisting in making the first laws of the state. He is a Republican in politics. Mr. Todhunter died January 29, 1902 at his home in Warren County. Source: Iowa Legislature - 1857 Iowa Constitutional Convention Member
