James A. Mason
(May 22, 1864 –June 30, 1930)

[from an Indianola newspaper, Tues., July 15, 1930, copied from a Warren County Historical Society Library scrapbook]
James Acley Mason, son of William and Edna June Mason, was born May 22, 1864, and passed away June 30, at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 8 days. His death occurred at his home near Carlisle, where he had lived his entire life. He received his education at the Ackworth Academy, at Ackworth, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Cora Patterson, Feb 1, 1887. This union was blessed with one daughter, Ermile, who has been his even constant helper. He was of a family of six children, four brothers and one sister. He leaves his wife, Cora, daughter, Ermile, and granddaughter, Lucile, who has been in his home since infancy, and to whom he was greatly attached. He is also survived by one brother, Dave Mason, of Mandan, N. D., and a large number of nieces and nephews. His was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges. He was devoted to his family, ever thoughtful of their comforts and interests. One of his recent pleasures was the graduation of his granddaughter, Lucile Hunt, from Simpson College, just a few weeks ago. The funeral service held at the home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Cassie Commons, of Albia, and interment was made in the Hartford cemetery with the Masonic lodge in charge. We wish to express our thanks to the friends and neighbors for their many expressions of sympathy and beautiful floral offerings. – Cora Mason, Ermile Hunt and Lucile Hunt.
