Obituary – Mrs. Eleanor Young
Miss Eleanor McMeeken was born Sept. 14, 1823 in Savannah, Ashland County, Ohio, and died April 25, 1912 at Indianola, Iowa, aged 88 years, 7 months and 11 days. At 21 years of age she was married to David Young. In 1852 they moved of Knoxville, Iowa, in 1870 to Hartford, Iowa; and shortly after the death of her husband in 1890, she moved to Indianola, where she lived with her daughter, Mrs. John I. McElroy, till death. At 12 years of age she was converted and united with Seceder’s church, for more than fifty years she had been a member of the Presbyterian church being a member of the Frist Prresbyterian church of Indianola at the time of her death. There are surviving her six children, W. B. Young, Knoxville, Iowa, W. S. Young, Lamar, Colorado, Mrs. Ella Williamson, Humboldt, Nebr., Mrs. Jennie Craig, Crete, Nebr., Mrs. John I. McElroy, Indianola, IA, Ed Young, Carlisle, IA. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor Rev. W. Oscar Harless, at the home at 9 o’clock on Saturday morning, April 26th. Interment was made at Hartford at twelve o’clock. An interesting feature was that the pallbearers were composed of men who when they started to Sabbath School in early childhood were taught by Mrs. Young.
