Obituary Notices
DIED – At his late residence in this city, July 14, 1871, TABER W. McKEE, aged seventy years, six months and twelve days. He was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, January 2nd, 1801, moved to Wayne County, Indiana (in what was then Indiana Territory) in 1812, resided there until 1830 when he removed to Henry County, Indiana, where he lived until 1853, in which year he came to Indianola where he resided until the time of his death. He was married Oct 19, 1820, to Sarah Elliott, sister to Chief Justice Elliott of Indiana, who now survives him. He served two terms as Sheriff of Henry County, Indiana, also served as County Commissioner, and held other offices of trust in same county. In August 1857 he was elected Sheriff of Warren County, Iowa, and served in that capacity until January 1st, 1860. In October 1861 he was elected County Treasurer and in 1863 was re-elected to the same office, serving until January 1st, 1866. He leaves but few near relatives in this county to mourn his loss, viz: Sarah McKee, his wife, E. R. McKee, his son, and a granddaughter, wife of E. W. Hartman Esq. He was not a member of any church, but lived a moral upright life, and was a man of more than ordinary influence in the society in which he mingled. He celebrated his golden wedding October 19, 1870, with a number of his old friends and old settlers of this county.
