Harold Fay Miller
(June 7, 1937 - September 16, 2015)

Harold Fay Miller was born June 7, 1937 in Hatfield, Missouri to Alva and Clela (Todd) Miller. He was the youngest of nine children. After attending school in Grant City, MO and Redding, IA., he graduated from Redding High School in 1956. He married Rowena Lambert of Redding, Iowa on June 22, 1958. Harold enlisted in the United States Army in 1959 and was stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington, where he served for 2 years before his honorable discharge from the service. Upon completion of his military service, Harold moved with his wife and young son to Des Moines to complete training at the Iowa Barber College. In 1963, Harold and Rowena moved to Carlisle, where Harold began his career as a Barber, first working for Lee Batten. In 1966, Harold became self-employed, opening Miller's Barber Shop, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. In addition to his service as a U.S. military veteran, Harold was a member of the Carlisle United Church, where he served on the administrative board. He was an appointed and elected councilman for the city of Carlisle and an active member of the local Lion's club, where he served as President. Harold was initiated into the Masonic Lodge in Allendale, Missouri and later transferred membership to the Marble Masonic Lodge of Carlisle. He was a 3rd degree Mason, a past Master and had been recognized for his 50 years of Lodge membership. Harold was initiated into the Carlisle Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in 1964, where he was a past Worthy Patron and was recently honored as 50 year member. Harold Miller died September 16, 2016 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ralph, Gene, Jack, Lloyd, and Mike; sisters: Deva and Donna Lea; and son: Steven. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rowena ; daughters: Kimberly (Conway) Miller-Chin of Davenport, IA., Regina (Brian) Hutchison of Urbandale, IA. ; and son: Douglas Miller of Wasilla, Alaska. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Jade Miller, Shadoe Miller, Chase Miller, Hannah Chin, Hunter Miller, Mason Chin, Quentin Hutchison, Jaxson Miller and Lena Miller; and 2 great- grandchildren: Lila Miller and Oliver Miller. Harold leaves behind many other family and friends to remember his laughter and smile; his generous heart, and his kind nature.
