Helen Virginia Bartholomew
(July 19, 1924 - May 20, 2016)

Helen Virginia Bartholomew was born to Earl and Dorothy Fuller Griffin July 19, 1924, in Des Moines, IA. She passed away at the age of 91 on May 20, 2016 at The Village in Indianola. Funeral services for Helen will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Burial will follow services in the Middle River Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday evening.
Helen graduated from Lincoln High School. She married Robert Bartholomew on November 20, 1943. Bob and Helen made their home on a farm east of Carlisle.
Helen was a seamstress, quilter, reader and gardener. Helen & Bob spent many evenings playing cards with friends. Helen loved and supported hot air ballooning as her son, grandson, and nephew are pilots. She was very active at Middle River Friends Church of which she was a member. She led Bible Study at the Carlisle Care Center for many years. She also volunteered for many years on the election board.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; and her brothers: Don, Bill and Al Griffin; and son-in-law, Denny Craig. She is survived by her son Rob (Linda) of Carlisle; daughters Lynn Craig of Carlisle and Jody (Roger) Woodruff of Indianola; grandchildren Robyn Bartholomew, Jennie (Derek) Nordhagen, Kerrie (Anthony) VanBroekhuizen, Bill Craig, Brad (Amy) Craig, Michelle Craig and Scott Woodruff; and great grandchildren Josie, Riley, Caleb, Breiden, Analeigh, Ariel, Madison, Ashlynn, Colton and Chase.
