Arvene Donald Brocker
(August 15, 1921 - February 22, 2017)

Arvene Donald Brocker, age 95, died on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in the Indianola Good Samaritan Center. He was born on August 15, 1921 to Alfred Brocker and Gertrude (Rodgers) Brocker in Summerset, Iowa.
He is survived by his children, Gary (Kim) Brocker and Marcia (Mark) Olson; grandchildren, Juli (Ryan) Cambron, Dena Stover (Patrick Sherwood) and Tracey (Joel) Schwiete: four step grandchildren, Eric (Carla) Olson, Maria (Jake) Schreier, Jamie Howard and Jodi Howard; eight great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren, siblings Eugene (Ruthe) Brocker and Katherene Weeks and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavaun (Botkin) Brocker, parents Alfred and Gertrude Brocker and brother-in-law Lyle Weeks.
Arvene served aboard U.S. Navy LST ships in both the Europe and Pacific Theaters from June 22, 1942 to October 15, 1945. Serving our country during World War II. He married the love of this life, Lavaun, in Des Moines, Iowa on October 2, 1943. Arvene and Lavaun planted their roots in Indianola, Iowa and started many wonderful family traditions from the house on the corner of G and Salem.
Arvene worked for Hicklin GM Power for 32 years, retiring in 1989. He then decided to try his hand in the small business industry by purchasing a laundromat, calling it the “Coin Launderette”. He would spend most of his days fixing washing machines and dryers, while Lavaun ran the office, until selling it in 2005.
Arvene lived life to the fullest. He traveled all over the world with Lavaun, family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, which included many trips to Canada with son Gary. He also enjoyed dinner out with his wife and whoever else wanted to join them. He helped in the kitchen on Sunday dinners and became quite the “dishwasher”, but couldn’t quite get the noodles just right and they would forever be known as “grandpa noodles”.
He was a wonderful man and will be missed greatly.
