(March 17, 1941 - March 1, 2017)

Dixie Lee Philips passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville, Iowa. Memorial funeral services for Dixie will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Interment of Dixie’s ashes will take place in the Palmyra Cemetery at a later date. Dixie was born on March 17, 1941 in Muscatine, Iowa to Elmer and Alberta Nicklas. Dixie graduated from Muscatine high school in 1958; and went on to graduate from Mercy School of Nursing in Burlington, Iowa in 1961. Dixie worked as a Registered Nurse her entire career. Dixie enjoyed flowers, gardening and taking care of her acreage. Dixie loved quilting. She loved giving her quilts to family and friends. Dixie is survived by her son, Douglas Philips of Keosauqua, Iowa (Amy Shuttleworth of Iowa City); daughter, Susan (Steven) Kauber of Granby, Colorado; the father of her children, Kriss (Jo) Philips of Rio Rico, Az.; four grandchildren, Judy Philips, Will Philips, Jack Kauber and Cate Kauber; companion, Jerald King of Swan, Iowa; and the many family and friends Dixie touched during the course of her life. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta and Elmer Nicklas of Muscatine, Iowa.
