David W. Killen
(June 15, 1953 - July 14, 2017)

David William Killen passed away on July 14, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services for David will be at 2 PM, Tuesday July 18, 2017 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle, with a visitation to start at 1:00 PM prior to service. Interment will follow at the Carlisle Twp. Cemetery. A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 2pm at Eagles Lodge #109 in Des Moines.
David was born on June 15, 1953 in Carlisle Iowa to John and Betty Killen. He had a passion for truck driving which led him in to a 42 year career ending at Ruan Transportation. David was a member of American Legion #374 as well as Eagles Aerie #109 in Des Moines. David served as a Marine with an honorable discharge.
David was always a man of giving and brought joy to everyone’s life right to the end. David was a family man through and through making sure everyone was taken care of before himself. David’s grandchildren meant the absolute world to him and there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them. To say you knew David was to say that you knew a wonderful man who had a heart of gold.
David is survived by his wife Cheryl of Des Moines, his six children, Kenneth Killen of Montana, Brent (Alecia) Killen of Montana, John (Cassie) Killen, Amanda (Randy) Cross, Amber (Aaron) Weber, Alicia (Ronnie) Tanchuk, all of Des Moines. He is survived by three brothers, Vern “Buck” (Linda), Eddie (Pam), Donnie, and a sister Linda. Numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. David was preceded in death by his brothers Tommy and John Killen, as well as his brothers-in-law Buck Reed and Vince Vasile, and a sister-in-law Terri. Memorials may be directed to the family.
