Cyrus Westerfield
(June 24, 1818 - January 28, 1899)

Dr. Cyrus Westerfield was born in Preble County, Ohio, June 24, 1818, died Jan 28, 1899. In Oct 1842 he was married to Elizabeth C. Finch. They moved to Iowa in 1865, settling at Ft. Dodge, and two years later moved to Warren County. There were born to them 14 children of whom 8 daughters and one son are still living, and all were at his bedside when death came. At the age of 23 he began practicing medicine at Noblesville, Ind. He practiced medicine in this county living at Greenbush, also at Clyde, Wayne County. For the last few years he lived in Chicago, where he recovered his sight after having been totally blind for a number of years. He had for some years cherished a desire to have his body cremated at death, and his wish was carried out. The funeral services were at 1 o’clock Monday, Jan 30, under the management of the Grand Army Post and the cremation at 3 o’clock the same day. The ashes were brought to Indianola and on Feb 2 were placed in the cemetery by the Grand Army Post here.
