William Smith
(1823 - October 27, 1904)

The Advocate Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Thurs., Nov 3, 1904, p.2, col.2
Scotch Ridge news – Death has again entered our neighborhood and taken from us one of your oldest settlers. William Smith was born in England in the year 1823, and died at his home on the Ridge October 27, 1904. He was a kind and loving husband, father and friend, a good neighbor and citizen. He came to America when he was twenty-five years old, he lived in Indiana one year and then came to Warren County, where he has since lived. A wife, three sons and one daughter survive him. He has been a member of the Baptist church of Carlisle for over thirty years. His funeral services were held at the home by Revs. H. G. Beeman and J. D. Graham, after which he was taken to the Ridge [Scotch Ridge] cemetery and laid to rest. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
