The New Virginian, New Virginia, IA, Thurs., Jan 1, 1920
Death of James Leachman
This community received another great shock Saturday morning when it was learned that James Leachman had passed away about three o’clock that morning at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Leachman. No one knew that he was ill and the announcement of his death was hard to believe. While he had not been feeling well for several days he was up and around and the report of his death came like a thunderbolt out of a clear sky. “Jimmie” was popular with everyone and well-liked and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The bereaved relatives have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. James Mankey, second son of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Leachman was born March 30, 1903 at Aberdeen, South Dakota. Moved with his parents to New Virginia May 1904, at the age of 14 months where he has resided since. He united with the Christian Church of this place in January 1912 at the age of 9 years. At the time of his death which occurred December 27 at 3 A. M. of pulmonary embolism, he was in his second year of the New Virginia High School. He leaves to mourn his loss his father and mother, three brothers, Robert B., William P., and Jean R., and one sister, Altabel, and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 at the Methodist Church, conducted by E. E. Stringfellow of Des Moines, assisted by J. O. Carder of the Methodist Church. Interment in the New Virginia cemetery.
Card of Thanks –We wish to express as best we can, though words are absolutely inadequate to convey our appreciation of the thoughtfulness – the kindness and the sympathy extended to us by so many kind friends and neighbors in our hour of sorrow. The throwing open of you homes and hearts – the beautiful flowers – the assistance so freely given will always remain a ray of bright sunshine through the darkest cloud of our lives. H. B. Leachman, wife and children.
