Richard Paul Parsons
(February 19, 1927 - May 29, 2016)Graveside burial of cremains with military rites for Richard Paul Parsons, 89, of Indianola, who passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016 at home, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7 in the Russell Cemetery, Russell, IA. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, June 6 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where the family will be present to greet friends. Richard was born February 19, 1927 to Homer Richard and Ruth Marie (Teater) Parsons in Chariton, Iowa. He attended grade school in Russell, Iowa and high school in Des Moines. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Patricia Marilyn Wilson June 1, 1947 in Russell, Iowa. Pat passed away in 1997 and July 1, 1998 Richard was united in marriage to Toni Owens.
Richard worked as a printer, trucker and heavy equipment pressure washer. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Indianola American Legion Post #165, Warren County Model Railroad Club, Warren County Historical Museum, Historical Construction Equipment Association, Antique Caterpillar Member/Owners Club and Edwards River Earth Science Club. Richard enjoyed historical model trains, antique gas engines and tractors, antique construction, trucks and garden tractors.
Survivors include his wife Toni Owens; children, Duane Parsons and Kathy (Marion) Thompson; step-son, Joshua Owens; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and two brothers.
