Jon Martin Kolsto
(January 2, 1940 - September 23, 2016)

Jon Martin “Jack” Kolsto was born January 2, 1940 in Newhall, Iowa to Martin and Alma Kolsto. He died Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa at the age of 76. Jon graduated from Newhall, Iowa where he participated in music and sports. He formed a band in the late 1950’s called “Spike and The Dukes of Rock & Roll” and played in the Cedar Rapids area. In 1958 he completed The Highway Instrument Training Course and in 1969 he completed the Midwestern Broadcasting School in Chicago. He joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He also worked several years at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. When Jon moved to California, he owned Albright Electrical Company in Long Beach and a resort at Big Bear Lake where he performed tributes to Elvis Presley. Moving back to Iowa he resided in Indianola until moving to The Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Survivors include his brother, Jim (Shirley) Kolsto of Indianola; sister, J’ Andrea Gibney of Maynard; nephews, David (Sandra) Barnhart of Marion, Kevin (Patricia) Gibney of Charles City; nieces, Kelley (Dave) Weihs of Missouri Valley, Kindra (Norm) Olson of Winterset, Kerri (Ben) Clark of Minneapolis, Kathleen (Kelly) Beacom of Maynard, Kristie (Eric) Hooper of Puyallup, WA. And Kara (Chad) McRoberts of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Alma Kolsto, a step-sister, Marcella Barnhart Baer and a niece, Kimberly Ann Gibney in December of 2014.
Memorial services for Jon Martin “Jack” Kolsto, will be held at Noon on Wednesday, September 28 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following at 2 p.m., Wednesday in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter.
