Naomi Ruth Grimes
(January 1, 1934 - February 20, 2017)

Naomi Ruth Grimes was born January 1, 1932, in Danville, IL, the 1st rural baby of the New Year. She was the daughter of Roscoe and Gertrude (Jones) Long. She married her high school sweetheart, P. Ray Grimes on August 31, 1952 in Fithian, IL. Naomi was a woman of faith and loved her family. Her parents and their values influenced her life and was a trait she passed on to her family. Growing up, Naomi always enjoyed helping her mother with house work and being outside helping her father with farm chores. As an adult, she was a role model in the church and community. Naomi had a full life, traveling, dancing, bowling, red-hat member, camping, attending sprint car races. Inducted in the Knoxville Hall of Fame in 2004 as one of only eight women enshrined. Naomi assisted Ray working at many race tracks across the country.
Naomi passed peacefully February 20, 2017, in Indianola at the age of 83.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in law, Teri (Jim) Riggins of Lincoln, NE; Linda (Rod) Selvage of Indianola, IA; one brother, Harold Long of Fithian, IL; five grandchildren, Brenda Riggins, Amy Selvage-Heimbaugh, Jeremy Selvage, Dustin Selvage, Brooke Selvage; nine great-grandchildren: Joshua Riggins, Victoria Bayer, Marc Johnson, Sampson Bayer, Ashley Selvage, Dakota Heimbaugh, Daxton Heimbaugh, Mya Selvage, Colby Selvage; one great great-grandchild, Jemma Riggins; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, P. Ray Grimes and one granddaughter Jamie Riggins-Bayer.Services for Naomi R. Grimes, 83, who passed peacefully February 20, 2017, in Indianola, will be held 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 23 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 24 in the Stearns Cemetery in Fithian, IL.
Visitation will be held 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 23 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Fithian United Methodist Church, Fithian,IL or to the family in her name.
