Nathaniel Kline Bandy
(September 9, 1992 - February 23, 2017)

Surrounded by love from the very beginning, September 9, 1992, Nathanial Kline was born to Scott and Shelley Bandy. Nathan was a happy baby who was treasured by his grandparents Jim and Karen Kline, Betty and Rich Thomas and Roy Lee Bandy. He also had a devoted Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jim. As the years went by, Nathan had a little brother, Aaron, and two cousins Cole and Tara.
Nathan’s family loved to travel, so from a very early age he was on a plane flying somewhere. We well remember him walking up the jetway eating a piece of pizza as if he was a seasoned flyer at age 2.
His grandparents treated the whole family to seven different cruises and Nathan was able to see much of the world. He was in 9 countries and 38 states for different vacations. He thought the cruise ships were great because he had an endless supply of his favorite drinks and foods. Our room always had a deck and he liked to sit out there and watch as we docked or left the port. He also spent many summers on Anna Maria Island, Florida. He liked to sit by the pool, read car magazines and sip Mountain Dew.
He was a big fan of the Iowa State men’s basketball team. His schedule was arranged around game time. He had a collection of posters in his room of the team and plenty of Iowa State apparel to wear. Nathan liked both the computer and TV. He enjoyed watching shows like “I Love Lucy,” “Ellen”, “American Pickers,” and of course anything about cars. Cars were a passion of Nathan’s. He had many model cars, read every car magazine available and loved touring local car lots. School was very important to Nathan. He had wonderful teachers throughout his education and we very much wish we could list all of their names. Not only did they help develop Nathan’s thirst for knowledge, but they also knew that our priority was that he be healthy and happy. Custodians, bus drivers, associates, secretaries, cooks, teachers and administrators all came together to provide Nathan with a wonderful educational experience.
School was where he first developed an interest in history, government and politics. He had a great memory and could rattle off dates and facts easily. Nathan loved the high school choir and participating in concerts. He went on to audit classes at Simpson College in the area of history.
Nathan died on February 23 of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He knew we loved him very much and we know he loved us deeply.
We would like to extend a special thank you to many people who have helped Nathan. Paula Bean, Rev. Dave Clark, John Moorlach, Rev. Paul Akin, Dr. Brian Waggoner and his wonderful staff, Christina Trout and Dr. Katherine Matthews, and Harry Clark.
We would like all who knew and loved Nathan and his family to join us in a Celebration of Life service that will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2017 at the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, [http://www.overtonfuneral.com/]
