June Lois Vanderhoef
(June 19, 1923 - March 4, 2017)

June Lois Vanderhoef departed this world on March 4, 2017, at The Village in Indianola, IA, to be with God, her husband, Russ, and other loved ones. Her family will host a memorial service on March 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room at The Village to commemorate her life and the many contributions to the Methodist churches of Iowa where she and Russ served, The Village, and the Indianola community.
June was born in June 19, 1923 in New York City. She had a beautiful voice and performed The Messiah as a member of the New York Oratorio Society in Carnegie Hall, one of her fondest memories. During WW II, she and her family vacationed in the Highlands near the Sandy Hook Coast Guard Station in New Jersey. There she met a handsome Coast Guardsman whom she married in 1946. June and Russ resided in Spring Lake Heights, NJ, for many years where they raised their family. During that time, June worked as a stay-at-home-mom, waitress, bookkeeper for a local bus company, and secretary for an attorney. In 1966, June and Russ made a major life decision.
Encouraged by their former minister at Wall Methodist Church in New Jersey, Howard Lord, June and Russ moved their family to Iowa so Russ could enter the Methodist ministry, a calling they never regretted. Together, they served five different charges from 1966-1984. In 1969 their family grew when they adopted three beautiful young sisters. June’s capacity for loving was boundless.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mildred Arnold; her step-mother, Marge Arnold; her sister, Muriel Baker; and her husband of fifty-three years, Russell Vanderhoef, Sr. Survivors include her children Russell (Robin) Vanderhoef, Jr., Indianola; Judy (Jim) Winget, Branson, MO; Richard Vanderhoef, Des Moines; Corrine Bertolini and Patti Vanderhoef, Oakton, VA; and Brenda (David) Hough, Jeffersonton, VA; eleven adoring grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to The Village Good Shepherd Fund, 1203 No. E St., Indianola, IA 50125. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, [http://www.overtonfuneral.com/]
