John Henry Shultz
(May 8, 1836 - Feb 11, 1916)

The New Virginian newspaper, New Virginia, Iowa, Thursday, Feb 17, 1916, front page

Sudden Death of J. H. Shultz – Died at the home of his sister, Mrs. M. J. Wilson, Friday morning, Sick but a short time
This community was shocked Friday morning to learn that J. H. Shultz had passed away about eight o’clock that morning. Very few knew that he was sick. In company with his sister, Mrs. M. J. Wilson, he had went to Murray Saturday to attend the funeral of their sister, Mrs. P. G. Butler. Little did anyone realize that in less than one short week Mr. Shultz would have left this stage of action. He complained Monday evening of a pain in his chest. He grew worse, and in spite of all that could be done he passed away a victim of acute pneumonia. To know Mr. Shultz was to like him. He was a most pleasant gentleman to meet and to talk to. A good Christian man has gone to his reward and this old world is better for him having lived in it. The deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones in these their saddest of hours.
