RUBY P. HAMMON Indianola
Ruby P. Hammon, 98, died on Sunday, August 31 at West-view Care Center, Indianola. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday September 5 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with interment at the IOOF Cemetery in Indianola.
Ruby had lived in Indianola and Warren County, most of her life. After graduation, she taught school at White Oak School for one year. She was an employee of Beymer Jewelry for 17 years and she and her husband Frank, were owners of the Hammon Paint Store in Indianola until 1975 when they sold the store and retired. After that Ruby worked at McLuen Drug for several years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving are her daughters, Rita Downey of Springfield, MO and Sandra Holmes, Urbandale, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank L. Hammon; her daughter, Darlene Murray; her parents Robert and Flo Russell; and a brother, Ivyl Russell.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 4 at the funeral home in Indianola. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Indianola or Hospice of Central Iowa, Knoxville, IA. [Copied from a scrapbook at the Warren County Historical Society]
