David Hodgin
(May 8, 1833 - April 30, 1909)

Obituary—David Hodgin
Once more the angel of death has visited our midst and removed one of our oldest residents, and one who has resided in this county for many years.
On Friday, April 30, 1909, as it was nearing the noon hour, David Hodgin passed from earthly sorrows to that shore beyond, after a life's battle of seventy-five years, eleven months and twenty-two days. He was born in Hendrix county, Indiana, May 8, 1833, and came to Iowa, in 1853, was united a marriage with Sarah A. Hiatt, August 21, 1859, and lived on a farm near Hammondsburg until they moved to their late home in Milo in the year 1898.
He leaves besides his aged wife, three sons and three daughters to mourn the loss of an affectionate father and a loving husband.
Our friend is with us no more. Our hearts are torn by sorrow at the parting of ways, but who can forget this unassuming life, or the patience of the deceased during the long days of suffering. Soon, grass will be growing over his tomb, soon the birds will carol in the trees and dormant nature rise to life, but his body no longer racked by pain will calmly rest beneath the sod, free from all the sorrows and afflictions of this life. The sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the bereaved ones. Funeral services were conducted at the home by C. S. Fair, Saturday evening, May 1st, and the body was taken to Ackworth on the train, where interment took place.
