Obituary – Walter Bown
Walter Bown, son of William and Nancy Bown was born at the old Bown homestead in Otter township, Warren Co., Iowa, April 6, 1884, and departed this life at the Mercy hospital to Ottumwa, Iowa, after some three weeks of intense suffering, July 1913, at the age of 29 years, 2 months, and 27 days.
He was a family of twelve children the father, mother, three sisters and one brother have preceded him to the great beyond. The surviving members of this family are George, John and Ellis Bown, Mrs. James Derrough, Mrs. James Chumbley, Mrs. John Crawford and Mrs. Samuel Parker.
Walter had spent almost his entire life in this community and was known and respected by a large circle of friends. About four months ago he located at Ottumwa and until the time of his affliction was employed by the Dain Manufacturing Co.
Thus another young man has been cut down in the strength of his early manhood. He has gone from our midst; his life’s battle has been fought, his life’s race has been run and his memory will live in the hearts that ache by the parting. The body was brought to Milo on the evening of July 4, and July 5, memorial services were held at Plainville Chapel conducted by the writer, assisted by Revs C. G. Hollingsworth and A. C. Thomas after which the internment took place.
