Cyrus Hampton Burson
(Dec 25, 1840 - Jan 16, 1908)

Old Pioneer Dead
Cyrus Hampton Burson was born in Louden county, Va., Dec. 25, Jan. 1840, and. died at his home at Milo, Iowa Jan. 16, 1908, aged 56 years, and 22 days. He :was married to Miss Anna Gregg in 1866, who still survives and also their daughter Allie and Mrs. Clara Crabbtree of Rapid City, South Dakota. These remain to mourn the departure of a dear husband and father. Shortly after their marriag. Mr. and Mrs. Burson removed to Warren county, Iowa, where they have since resided.. When the Civil War broke out he enlisted in Company G, Seventieth Ohio Infantry, and fought in the battles of Fort Fisher, Wilmington and others and was promoted corporal and received his discharge Oct. 9,1864. About the year 1887 during the pastorate of J. L. Johnson, Mr. Burson made profession of religion and united with the Methodist Episcopol church in Milo and continued his relation to the of his death, when he said, "The future looks bright," expressing. his readiness for the great change that so soon was to bring him into the presence of his Redeemer. All that :medical assistance could render, and kind friends could do was done, but could not keep him longer, for God had called him and he has gone up higher. The funeral was held at the Methodist church in Milo, Sunday morning, Jan. 9th, the pastor Rev. R. J. Tennant, preaching from Job 14-14, "If a man die shall he live again." Rev. C: S. Fair and C. R. Barr also took part in the services. Home is not home for father is gone, Angels have taken him out of our care; dark is the room and empty his chair; he's gone to that home so peaceful and fair. Gone and the seasons to come and go, wreathing his grave in blossoms and snow; snow on the bosom that sheltered so, cruel and cold as the bleak wines blow.
