ervices for Ruth Ann Stewart, 66, who passed away, Friday, November 20, 2015, at Unity Point Taylor House Hospice will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 28 at Lighthouse Community Church in Des Moines. Burial will be held 2 p.m.,Monday, November 30 in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, IA.
Ruth Ann Imig was born July 4, 1949 in San Diego, CA to Leonard and Leona (Meyers) Imig. She had lived in Des Moines, Leesburg, VA, St. Louis, MO, Sparta, WI and Indianola, IA. Ruth worked as a substitute teacher, preschool teacher and was a faithful servant of God. She also enjoyed traveling with John to Hawaii and trips in the Midwest to view the changing fall landscape.
She was a member of Lighthouse Community Church and was dedicated to help those in need. She knitted scarves, made dresses for girls in Haiti, and sent hand-made cards to encourage many. She enjoyed decorating the homeless shelter for Veterans Day and Valentine's Day, worked to clothe those in need with the bi-annual free clothing giveaway at Lighthouse Community Church, and donated many shoeboxes annually for Operation Christmas Child - Samaritan's Purse. She was loved by many, collecting friends everywhere she went.
Ruth is survived by her husband, John; son, Erik (Stacy) Dahlberg; step-daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Gardner of Urbandale, IA; step-son, Paul (Coree) Stewart of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Seth and Leah Gardner, Shelby and Caitlyn Stewart; and a brother, Robert W. (Bonnie) Imig of Jamul, CA.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 27 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lighthouse Community Church or Unity Point Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
