Alice Helen Annear
(June 14, 1928 - Oct 7, 2015)

Alice Helen (Hansell) Annear was born June 14th, 1928 in Indianola, Iowa to Robert Earnest Hansell and Helen Ingles (McElroy) Hansell. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Thomas Rest Haven at the age of 87.
Alice learned the value of regular church attendance at an early age and was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian church in Indianola as pianist for the youth classes and choir member where she met her future husband, Bruce. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids and Velda Rose United Methodist Church in Mesa, Arizona.
In school Alice participated in numerous music programs and was inducted into the National Honor Society her senior year of high school. She attended Simpson College and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She also became a member of PEO during her freshman year at Simpson. In 1948 she married Bruce Annear and moved to his family farm near Carrollton, Iowa where they farmed for nearly 20 years. They had 5 boys, Joseph (1949), John (1951), Tom (1952), Mike (1953) and Jim (1958). In 1965 they purchased the Carpenter and Brannan Insurance Agency in Coon Rapids which Alice helped Bruce manage for 23 years. The company's name was later changed to Annear Agency where she was a licensed insurance agent and served as office manager. They moved to Coon Rapids in 1969 and developed the Free Methodist campgrounds into Oakshire Acres a residential addition to the town. After selling the insurance agency, they moved to Lake Panorama in 1995, spending winters in Mesa, AZ until 2003 when they made Mesa their permanent home. The return to Coon Rapids in July of 2015 made the moves come full circle.
Alice was also a member of an informal, close knit, girls club in Coon Rapids that met and socialized regularly in each other's homes for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bruce, sons John (Pat) in Englewood, CO, Tom (Lynn) in Cheyenne, WY, Mike (Tonya) in Memphis, TN, Jim (Heidi) in Polk City, IA, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, her brother John Hansell in Des Moines, IA, 17 nieces and nephews and many friends.
