Merlyn Rex Eubank
(July 12, 1938 - July 25, 2015)

Services for Merlyn “Buck” Eubank, 77, will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Liberty Center Cemetery, Liberty Center, IA.
Merlyn Rex Eubank was born July 12, 1938, in Chariton, Iowa, to Max and Evadna (Ruble) Eubank. He was the oldest of three boys raised on a farm near Norwood. On March 30, 1958, he married Ann Hockensmith. They enjoyed 58 years together and raised four children: Randy, Ronda, Lori, and Linda. He was active and engaged in living until a recent, sudden illness and passed from this life on July 25, 2015. He was 77 years old.
Merlyn graduated from Chariton Community High School in 1955 and began working and farming. Merlyn loved the land and worked tirelessly on his farm north of Liberty Center, raising hogs and cattle and growing crops to support his family. Additionally, Merlyn worked at John Deere in Ankeny as a crane operator for thirty-five years. In his spare time, Merlyn trapped, hunted, and fished on the family farm and was quick to share a story about his adventures. He also enjoyed coin collecting, country music shows, tractor rides, and sharing stories with old and new friends. Merlyn had a special talent for restoring antique tractors of all different makes.
Merlyn supported his children in their endeavors, driving many miles each weekend to horse shows all over Iowa. He enjoyed watching his daughters ride and compete, sharing in each victory and providing advice and solace when things didn’t go well. He also enjoyed teaching his son how to farm and hunt. They enjoyed a close relationship, going to farm sales, and helping each other with harvest and livestock.
Merlyn loved his grandchildren, spending many Fridays and Saturdays watching football, basketball, golf, baseball, softball, sheep and horse shows. He was always there to offer them support and encouragement, high fives, and special treats. His generosity in both money and time will always be a cherished memory of his beloved grandchildren. Merlyn’s devotion to his family as a husband, father, grandfather, caretaker, friend, and supporter will be deeply missed. He always had time to listen and would offer thoughtful advice, drawing on his life experiences and wisdom.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Eubank; children, Randy (Jodi) Eubank, Ronda (Steve) Smith, Lori (Kyle) Hoch, and Linda (Doug) McCormick; nine grandchildren, Daniel Hoch, Katelyn Eubank, Nick Smith, Matthew (Mary) Hoch, Mark Eubank, Jenna Hoch, Grant Smith, Clint McCormick, and Abby McCormick; and brothers, Keith and Gary Eubank. He was preceded by his parents Max and Evadna (Ruble) Eubank and daughter-in-law Catherine Eubank.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 28 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
