Donald Lee Ramsey
(June 5, 1928 - July 24, 2015)

Donald “Don” Lee Ramsey passed away peacefully Friday, July 24, 2015 at his Luther Park Apartment in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 87.
Services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, July 26 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Liberty Center Cemetery.
Don was born June 5, 1928 in Liberty Center, Iowa to Paul and Mona (Thompson) Ramsey. He then moved to Madrid for 17 years. Don attended two country schools and Madrid High School. From there he joined the United States Army/Air force (combined) in 1945 and served for three years stationed at Scott Airfield in St. Louis, Missouri. Following his service, Don farmed a couple of years in Milo, Iowa with his dad before moving to Newton and working at Maytag and other manufacturing facilities. It was during this time he met his wife, Emmabell (Nash) Ramsey and to this union came four children.
Don was very proud to have retired from John Deere after working twenty eight and a half years. His passion was grandchildren, camping, and going to garage sales. Don was an “American Picker” before there was an “American Picker.” His tenderness and compassion was just under the surface and his love language was giving gifts.
Don is survived by his children, Rayma Jean Dinnen of Chicago, Phillip LeRoy (Chris) Ramsey of Dakota Dunes, SD, Paul Michael Ramsey of Des Moines and Deborah Lynn (Carl Clawsen) Ramsey of Slater; grandchildren, Kevin (Mary) Dinnen, Trayla (Nate) Carter, Christopher (Dawn) Ramsey, Phillip (Erin) Ramsey, Jennifer Ramsey, Ben Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Tayven, Larae, Beckham, Rya, Jairus, Oakley, Devon, BreAnna, Aubrey, Braydon Joseph, Emalyn Rose; brother, Larry (Karen) Ramsey of Vera Beach, FL; sister, JoAnn (Bob) Pierick of Ankeny and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emmabell (Nash) Ramsey; parents, Paul and Mona Ramsey; son, David Lee Ramsey; and sister, Virginia Bowler.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Sunday, July 26 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be given to the family in Donald’s name.
