Lester Eugene "Gene" Trotter, 65, New Virginia, died of cancer Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Visitation with family will be held Tuesday, April 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, where services will be held Wednesday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Belmont Cemetery in rural Milo.

Mr. Trotter retired in 1992 as a plant superintendent with Moehl Millwork in Des Moines. He had also been a farmer, worked for the city of Milo, was employed by Leachman Lumber Yard in New Virginia and was a self-employed general contractor. Trotter was the past chief and assistant fire chief of the New Virginia Fire Department, a scout master for 13 years in New Virginia as well as a member of American Legion Post No. 281 in New Virginia and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; one son, Richard of Grand Junction, Colo.; one daughter, Genelle Truitt of Indianola; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Virginia Fire Department or Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.
