Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 12-9-2003:

Memorial services for Murl Lee "Dutch" Spurgin, 90, who died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 13 at Chapel of Faith Church, on Highway 65-69 North of Indianola. Interment of cremains will be in the Sandyville Cemetery.

He was a lifelong farmer, trader of commodities and served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons, VFW and was an avid horse racing fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Ada (Heiny) Spurgin, and brothers, Tom and Murray. He is survived by his nephew, Barry Spurgin of Wahoo, NE; niece, Victoria Anne (Gilbert) Archuleta of Flagstaff, AZ; a great-nephew and two great-nieces.

There will be no visitation. Overton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
