Nora Belle Chumbley, daughter of W. J. and Leathie Slinker, was born Dec. 2, 1895, in the St. Marys neighborhood. All of her life was spent around Indianola and in Warren County and for the last several years she had resided at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center. She died at the Mercy Hospital Nov. 15, 1974, at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 13 days.
On April 7, 1915, she was united in marriage with Winton Alvor Chumbley. To this union were born four children, Esther Pauline King, Leathie A. Tigner, both of Indianola, Wilma Graham of Smyrna, Tenn., and Alvor B. Chumbley, who died in 1966.
While they resided in the Browns Chapel neighborhood, she was a member of the church and Ladies Aid Society. After moving to town, she united with First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her three daughters, Pauline, Leathie and Wilma and her daughter-in-law, Gladys Chumbley; two sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. James B. Key and John W. Long Nov. 18 at the Overton Funeral Home. Interment was in the Indianola IOOF Cemetery.
