Funeral services for Lelia Marie Mitchell, 87, a longtime resident of Lacona, were held Friday, March 8, at Lacona Methodist Church.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Jerry Oliver and Pastor Gene Anderson with burial in the Liberty Center Cemetery. Mosher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Sept. 1, 1897, in Warren County to James Harvey Sinift and Mary Lydia Miller Sinift. She lived on the family farm two miles west of Lacona her entire life, except the last two years when she was a resident of Westview Care Center in Indianola.
She attended county schools and high school in Lacona. On Oct. 20, 1920, she was married to Harold Mitchell of Lacona. They spent their entire life farming and were active members of the Lacona Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Grant of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a son, Don of Lacona; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nephews; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Genevieve.

Lelia Marie Mitchell was born Sept. 1, 1897 in Warren County to James Harvey Sinift and Mary Lydia Miller Sinift. She lived on the family farm two miles west of Lacona. The last two years she was a resident of Westview Care Center in Indianola.
She had three brothers who died in infancy and one older brother, Sam Sinift, a resident of the Liberty Center area. Her maternal grandparents and great-grandparents came to Iowa around 1850 from Allen County and Lancaster, Ohio. A great-uncle of Lelia's, Samuel Meyers was one of the founders of the town of Lacona.
Lelia attended country schools and high school in Lacona until 1914, when she quit school to help care for her mother.
On Oct. 20, 1920, Lelia was married to Harold Mitchell of Lacona. They spent their life farming and were active members of the Lacona Methodist Church. They were charter members of Warren County Farm Bureau. Three children were born to this union; Genevive, Marjorie and Don. Harold and Genevive both preceded Lelia in death.
