Donald Raymond "Pete" Shoemaker, 91, of Milo, died September 6, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Indianola.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Milo United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Belmont Cemetery following the service. An open visitation will be in the Milo Community Center will beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday. The family will welcome friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Raymond was born May 27, 1914 in Belmont Township, Warren County, Iowa. He graduated from Milo High School and attended Simpson College in Indianola. On May 29, 1937, he married Lorraine Oldaker. He farmed, and together with his wife, ran Shoemaker Hardware for 25 years, retiring in 1976. Upon retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, big band music, and sharing their Lake Rathbun home with family and friends. He was a charter member of the Milo Lions Club, and a member of the Milo United Methodist Church.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Uree (Hukill) Shoemaker and one great-granddaughter, Josie Chapman. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine; daughter, Betty (Eldon) Coffman of Milo; son, Bob (Diane) Shoemaker of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren;16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Milo United Methodist Church, the Milo Rescue Unit, or the Milo Community Center.
