Gerald John Shivvers passed away on 2 April 2008 at the Knoxville Hospital. Born near Knoxville on 10 February 1920, he was the youngest child of Charles C. and Lydia Marie (Langebartels) Shivvers.

Gerald graduated from Knoxville High School and later attended Iowa State University. During World War II, he was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone as an ROTC officer.

On 4 August 1945, he married V. Jean Gibson from Greenfield. Gerald and his wife were worldwide travelers.

Gerald had a passion for tinkering with machines. He and his older brother, Charles, invented the Shivvers Grain Circulator System. As a very successful farmer, he enjoyed farming with his son-in-law, Kyle Phillips, and grandchildren, Rager and Tasker.

Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Jean, and daughters, Rebecca Shivvers, Susan (Kyle) Phillips, and Cindy Wheeler, and brother, Charles (Anita). Other survivors include 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sylvia (infant), Elnora Dimm, and brothers, Owen (Grace) and Mark (Jody), and a daughter, Nancy.

There will be no services and committal of the cremains will be at the Lincoln Cemetery in Marion County at a later date. For those desiring, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Shivvers may be made to the American Cancer Society.
