Ruth Berniece Jordan, 87, of Norwalk, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at Mercy Capitol hospital in Des Moines. Services were March 3 at Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville. Burial was March 4 at Pleasantville Cemetery.
Mrs. Jordan was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Pleasantville, the daughter of Chester and Hazel (Core) Shawver. She graduated high school in 1937. She then attended Simpson College and received her teaching degree. She taught school in Swan and then in Pleasantville prior to her marriage. She married Dean Jordan Oct. 31, 1945 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple lived on his family farm in the Swan area before purchasing their farm near Pleasantville in 1951. Following his death in 1990, she spent winters with her son, Denny in Des Moines, before moving to Norwalk in 1998.
She enjoyed reading, music, and vegetable and flower gardens. She was active in the Methodist church and taught Sunday school for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Leland and Dean Shawver.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandy Bahr of Norwalk; a son, Denny of Des Moines; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or to the Gladys Black Memorial Garden.
