Charles Victor Schneider, 83, passed away Friday December 5, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A Mas of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with burial in Resthaven Cemetery.
Charles was born February 19, 1925 in Lacona, IA to Victor and Myrtle (Spaulding) Schneider. He lived in Des Moines and West Des Moines most of his life. Charles was united in marriage to Louise Bauer on August 21, 1946 in Lacona.
Charles was director of Food Services and Production at the V.A. Medical Center and in retirement was a driver for Reach for Recovery. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Iowa Chefs and Culinary Club. Charles enjoyed flowers, gardening, the Chicago Cubs and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise; daughters, Donna (Robert) Fraizer, Sandra (James) Eaton and Jane (Patrick) Rhoades; sons, Jim (Kim) Schneider, and Jeff (Carla) Schneider; ten grandchildren, Christopher, Bryan, Matthew, Melissa, Amy, Marc, Jennifer, Jessica, Jaimie and Shannon; 10 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Allison, Megan, Gage, Sirus, Austin, Dulcie, Thatcher, Trysten and Jacob; two sisters, Catherine and Rosemary; three brothers, Ervin, Herman and Raymond, and his constant companion Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Edward and a sister Evelyn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McLaren's Chapel with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or American Kidney Foundation. Special thanks to Dr. Robert N. Smith, Hermine & Brownie, Dr. Jeffery DeFrancisco and the nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center.
