Obituary from The Record-Herald and Indianola Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Warren County, Iowa, USA on 6-3-1985:

Simon Newton Knouse, son of Theodore E. and Susie Dollison Knouse, was born October 30, 1908, in Towner, N.D., and died Feb. 8 at his home in Indianola at the age of 76.
When Newton was an infant, his family moved to Warren County where he attended public schools and Indianola High School.
On July 4, 1929, he was united in marriage to Beulah Meeker. To this union were born three sons, Ted, Tom and Roger, and three daughters, June, Joyce and Sherry. His wife, Beulah died Sept. 17, 1955.
Following high school, Newton worked with his father using a team of horses to build roads. Then he worked in the timber for G.L. Reddish Logging. He later worked as a self-employed livestock trucker for many years. He then was employed by the State Highway Commission as a maintenance supervisor where he remained for 33 years until retiring in 1972. Newton enjoyed going to sales and auctions, hunting and repairing mowers.
On Dec. 26, 1960, he married Cleo Arlene Benge and lived in Milo for approximately 10 years, returning to live in Indianola in 1982. Arlene died June 1, 1982.
Surviving are three sons, Ted and Tom, both of Indianola, and Roger of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, June Wood of Indianola, Joyce Barg of Emmetsburg and Sherry Zenor of Winterset; three stepsons, Jim Benge of Indianola, Larry Benge of Port Arthur, Texas, and Robert (rest of obituary is missing)

Funeral services for S. Newton Knouse, 76, of 708 West Third Avenue were held Monday, Feb. 11, at Overton Funeral Home. Interment was in the Indianola IOOF Cemetery.
Mr. Knouse died Friday, Feb. 8, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home.
Born in Towner, N.D., he had lived in Warren County since moving to Iowa as an infant. He attended Indianola High School. He worked in the timber for S.L. Reddish Logging and later was a self-employed livestock trucker for many years. He was a maintenance supervisor for the Iowa Highway Commission for 33 years, retiring in 1972. An Indianola resident since 1982, he previously had lived 10 years in Milo.
Surviving are three sons, Ted and Tom, both of Indianola, and Roger of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, June Wood of Indianola, Joyce Barg of Emmettsburg and Sherry Zenor of Winterset; three stepsons, Jim Benge of Indianola, Larry of Port Arthur, Texas, and Robert Benge of rural Indianola; one stepdaughter, Jane Ann Maynes of Greenfield; one brother, Donald Knouse of Yuma, Ariz.; two sisters, Maxine Repplinger of Indianola and Eva Cox of Barberton, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 16 stepgrandchildren.
