Obituary from The Record-Herald and Indianola Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Warren County, Iowa, USA on 10-21-1985:

Hazel Vera Sams, 85, of Milo died Oct. 11. Services were held Monday, Oct. 14, at the Milo Christian Union Church with the Rev. Hearold McElwee and the Rev. Larry Pauley officiating. Interment was in the Liberty Center Cemetery.

Mrs. Sams was born Oct.25, 1899, daughter of Elmer and Eliza Smith Keeney. She grew up on the family farm near Liberty Center. She was a member of the Otter Creek Christian Church for many years, later transferring her membership to the Christian Union Church in Milo.

On March 17, 1919, she was united in marriage to Oral Sams. Six children were born to this union. For many years they farmed near Liberty Center. In February 1976 they moved to Milo, sharing a home with their daughter, Mamie Knouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oral; daughter, Mona Analee; her parents; four brothers; one sister; two granddaughters, Priscilla Sue and Kathy Stephens; and her son-in-law, Franklin Knouse.

Survivors include five children, Pearl and wife Veda of Des Moines, Eldon and wife Vera of Auburn, Wash., Dale and wife Margaret Ann, Earl and wife Louise of Indianola and Mamie Knouse of Milo; three sisters, Laura Woods and Mrs. Earl (Ardys) Thompson of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Lloyd (Ethel) Borchert of Indianola; 20 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
