Services for Harold W. Hypes of Indianola will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Overton's Funeral Home. Burial will be in Indianola IOOF Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Hypes, 68, died Monday at Woodbury West Health Care Center in West Des Moines of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Born in Warren County, he moved to Indianola 43 years ago. He retired in January as a self-employed salvage buyer.

Among survivors are his wife, Ellora; a daughter, Sue Douglas of New Virginia; three sons, Jerry of Des Moines and Dave and Randy, both of Indianola; a sister, Fern Hypes of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for research of lateral sclerosis.
