Obituary from The Winterset Madisonian newspaper, Winterset, Madison County, Iowa, USA on 9-9-1964:

Mrs. Lois Emmeline Hircock of Winterset, a life-time resident of Madison county, died Thursday, Sept. 3, at a Des Moines hospital. She was 68 years of age.

Mrs. Hircock was born at Winterset Oct. 25, 1885, a member of a pioneer Madison county family. She was the former Lois E. Clark, daughter of Frank and Mary Bayer Clark. Her father’s parents were Caleb and Ruth Clanton Clark, members of the first band of pioneers to settle in Madison county.

She had retired recently after 10 years spent operating a grocery store in Winterset.

During her life here Mrs. Hircock was active in many women’s organizations. She was affiliated with the V.F.W., auxiliary, the American Legion auxiliary, the World War I Veterans auxiliary, the Sixty-Plus club and the Good Neighbor club. She was also active in the First Christian church of Winterset.

She was married Feb. 16, 1916 to Lannie R. Hircock of Winterset. His death occurred in 1959.

Surviving are two sons, Carl and Roger Hircock of Winterset, and a daughter, Mrs. Esther Nebel, also of Winterset. She was preceded in death by an infant son.

She also leaves eight grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ada Hoots of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday from the First Christian church of Winterset, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. William E. Bowles. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
