Wessie Maude Breeding, 96, died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating.

Wessie (Ekleberry) Breeding was born July 3, 1909 near Derby, Iowa to Joseph and Julia (Irvin) Ekleberry. Wessie graduated from Humeston High School in 1927. She married James Breeding on October 25, 1931 in Milan, Missouri. A long-time resident of Winterset, she had been a member of Past Chiefs, Pythian Sisters, Afternoon Bridge Club, Jolly Dozen Bridge Club, A.V.A., Lakeview Country Club, Sunshine Garden Club, National Federation of Republican Women, and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.

Wessie is survived by a son, Jim Breeding of Ojai, CA; daughter, Kay Darnall of Sierra Vista, AZ; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; brothers, Forrest, Burt, Ward, Kenneth and Jack Ekleberry; and sisters, Dorothy Stout and Kathleen Mascheier.

A visitation will be held on Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at Collins Oak Park Chapel, where her family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Health Trust Foundation. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
