Charlie LaRue Bowlin, 86, died Monday, May 2, 2005 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5 at the New Virginia Cemetery.

Charlie was born February 13, 1919 in Des Moines, the son of Franklin and Minnie Bowlin. He lived in the St. Charles and New Virginia areas, moving to Des Moines in 1951. Charlie worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company and served in the US Marines during WWII. He was also a member of the Urbandale American Legion.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Donald (Jane) Bowlin, Dennis (Judy) Bowlin and Darell Bowlin; daughter, Barbara Huss; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and six sisters.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnson.
