Richard G. Blackford, 74, of Carlisle died of a heart attack Monday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date.
Mr. Blackford was born in Des Moines and had lived here many years until moving to Carlisle 10 years ago. He was a retired maintenance worker with the city of Des Moines and an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed music, fishing and lawn mowing.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; three daughters, Diane McPherson, Sue Skinner and Brenda Baccus, all of Des Moines; a son, Mike of Murray; four sisters, Sharon Myers of Wichita, Kan., and Colleen Frye, Irene Hains and Jean Baker, all of Des Moines; two brothers, Paul and John, both of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends immediately following memorial services Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Neptune Society of Iowa is handling arrangements.
