Mary Lenora Amsberry, second daughter of Willis B. and Arabelle Mayes, was born on a farm near Sutherland in O'Brian County, Iowa, Oct. 4, 1883 and died in Indianola Dec. 8, 1967 at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 4 days.

When she was 6, the family moved to Warren County near Milo where she grew to womanhood. In that community and in Milo she attended the public schools.

Dec. 23, 1903 in Milo she was united in marriage to Rolla D. Amsberry. Their home was blessed with two children, a son, James, and a daughter, Loraine.

They first made their home on a farm east of Milo and then they moved into the town where they were in the hardware business until her husband's death.

She attended Sunday school and church in Milo Methodist Church and as a youth united with that church in which was active for more than 50 years. After the death of her husband she moved to Indianola where she united with First Methodist Church where she has been a member for the last several years.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, first at Bethel Chapter 295 at Milo where she served as worthy matron, and later of Indianola Chapter No. 338 and also of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

She is survived by her son, James of Indianola; daughter, Loraine Woodmansee of Long Beach, Calif.; one granddaughter, Mrs. Walter (Priscilla) Fricke of Middleton, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jill Fricke; two sisters, Mrs. John Lyons and Mrs. Squire Crawford, both of Indianola. One other sister, Mrs. Paul Kimzey, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Dec. 11 at First Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glen F. Lamb officiating. Interment was in the Belmont Cemetery.
