John S. Blackford Jr., 74, of Des Moines passed away at his home on August 11, 2008. There will be a visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home. A graveside military service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter.

John was an Air Force veteran. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his children John S. (Kris) Blackford III of Lacona, Lisa Pinegar of Vandalia, Scott Blackford of Runnells, Susan (Brian) Lazar of Carroll, Iowa and Jill (Ron) Janeczko of Meridian, Idaho as well as eleven grandchildren, soon to be twelve, and two great- grandchildren.

John S. Blackford, Jr., 74, of Des Moines passed away at home on August 11.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Blackford; one brother, Richard Blackford. He is survived by four sisters, Colleen Frye, Dorothy Haines (Ralph), Jean Baker (Glen), Sharon Myers (Charles); one son, Paul Blackford; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral arrangements were handled by Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home.

Visitation was Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Graveside services were held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
